Henrietta daycare owner accused of assaulting child in care; other victims possible

The owner of a day care center in Henrietta has been accused of assaulting a 1-year-old child in the center's care, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Shannon Johnson, 37, of Rochester was charged on Friday with two counts of second-degree assault, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, following an incident that occurred at Kiddie City Daycare, 130 Thompson Road, Henrietta, on Aug. 29, deputies announced Tuesday.

Her husband, John Johnson, 40, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child in connection with a separate incident that occurred at the daycare center on Friday.

Deputies allege that a child suffered physical injuries while in the care of Kiddie City Daycare, an in-home day care center on Aug. 29. Further details on the Aug. 29 and Oct. 4 incidents were not released.

Investigator Sgt. David Bolton of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said the 1-year-old, while in Shannon Johnson's care, suffered bruising and swelling on the child's body, including a sizable welt on the child's leg.
